Il Gestore Varese

First day at work after five days off proved to be harder than I thought- not the actual work part, but getting up in the morning part.

But I got there, and I got back home again too, after I had picked up my mom who had been poolside tanning all day- was I jealous? Yes… yes, is the answer to that!

We decided to go out to dinner also yesterday, after all, she deserves it- she is still on her vacation. After recommendations from a friend of mine I finally got to try out Il Gestore in Varese.

My bf is the biggest creature of habit, so he is not the biggest fan of trying out new places- once he does though, he loves them more often than not. So I grabbed this opportunity to try something new, and brought my mom to Il Gestore- just a short walk from my house.

I did assume it was a nice place, but I was not expecting it to be that good. Normally the restaurants with the best food are not very good at creating a really nice ambiance in the restaurant surroundings, but this one- so, so cute and nice and the staff there- fantastic!!

We came a bit too early so we grabbed a glass of prosecco in their garden and got served a small snack first- crab pate, foie gras and shrimp with an unidentified sauce.

Such a cute garden to have aperitivo

The restaurant has a nice view of the garden and the tables are placed outside on a terrace. It was so serene, people chatting away in a nice and calm tone, the staff moving fluidly around the 10 or so tables there, I just loved the entire experience.

And then the food came.. first they had bread and butter- which just tasted so good! Normally you never get butter in Italian restaurants and the bread is often light, but here… The bread was dark, fresh and so tasty- and their butter, who knows what was in there- but it tasted so, so good!

I had a pasta dish with pistachio pesto and shrimps, and my mother had pasta with orange- butter and shrimps. And they both were SO.GOOD!

They also had a variety of fresh fish, and I have heard that the lobster there is amazing.

We had a Vermentiner from Sardinia which just was so fitting and good for what we ordered. I don’t think I have had bad wine from Sardinia, so always a home- run, but this one even more so!

Definitely going back there, not a very cheap place, but not outrageous either- 75€ for the two of us, two pasta dishes, a bottle of wine and a bottle of water.

What a Tuesday evening I must say, luckily not every Tuesday, then I wouldn’t enjoy this one so much😉
