REMARKABLE: Zaha Hadid

She was born in Iraq but attended boarding school in Switzerland to then proceed to get her degree in architecture from the UK. She was (died in 2016) brilliant at drawing, which led to her drawings of buildings happened first, and then the practical engineering of actullay making it work happen afterwards.

Her being an Iraqi woman climbing to the top of a mans- dominated field, inspires me so much!.

She was the first woman in the UK to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize, she received the Stirling Prize, in 2010 and 2011. In 2012, she was made a Dame by Elizabeth II for services to architecture, and in 2015 she became the first woman to be awarded the Royal Gold Medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Deyan Sudjic of the Guardian described Hadid as "an architect who first imagined, then proved, that space could work in radical new ways...Throughout her career, she was a dedicated teacher, enthused by the energy of the young. She was not keen to be characterised as a woman architect, or an Arab architect. She was simply an architect. I just love that- defying convention, being creative, and creating something following the solution on how to make it work afterwards.
